Time Management for Parents
Two big challenges facing parents today are
- making the transition to parenthood and
- juggling parenting with paid work
Transition to Parenthood
When we first become parents some of the issues we face are
- coping with this enormous transition
- reconciling our expectations and beliefs about parenthood with the realities
- learning how to parent - usually under very different experiences from when we were children, so that the role models of our own parents no longer apply
- the total reorganisation of our lives, including coping with new challenges and tasks on top of all the things we are trying to maintain
- reassessing our lives as our principles and values try to keep up with our new lifestyle.
Parenting and Paid Work
As working parents some of the issues we face are
- the pressures of the workplace on parents
- dividing household tasks fairly - yes even in today's 'egalitarian' society!!!
- trying to get job expectations and preferences to meet job realities
- understanding what the kids want regarding their parents' work
- coping with long and non-standard work hours, including Sunday work
- how family friendly, or not, our work arrangements are and what arrangements help working parents
